Salvation

How can you be saved?

This is an extremely important question, in fact, so important, that your eternal destiny depends upon it. Do you know for sure where you’re going when you die? Did you know that you CAN know for sure?

Many go through life thinking that they’re saved, or hoping to get to heaven one day. They hope that their “good” outweighs their “bad.” Friend, it doesn’t work that way. There’s only one way to heaven, and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ.

So what does it mean to be saved? Being saved is a wonderful thing! Being saved means we are saved from our sin, and the payment of that sin, because Jesus took our sin debt upon Himself.

So how can YOU be saved?

1. Understand that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Verse 10 says, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” This includes ALL of us. We are ALL sinners. No one is excluded from this. We all need a Savior, and have no hope without Him. Ephesians 2:12 says, “That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens…and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.” Without God, you and I are without hope.

2. Understand that there is a penalty for your sin. You must understand that not only are we all sinners, but that there is a payment, or penalty for the sin that we have committed. In other words, we have sinned against a holy God, and must be punished for it. That’s why we all die. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Not only do we all face death because of our sin, but we must face God in judgment after death. Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto me once to die, but after this the judgment.” And the punishment that we deserve is death in Hell for our sin. Revelation 21:8 calls this the second death. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” So we all deserve to die and go to Hell. But wait…

3. Jesus Christ took our penalty. He paid the price for our sin. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God loved you so much that He sent His Son into the world to take your punishment for you. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth (or demonstrated) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Even though we are all sinners, and deserve to die and go to Hell, Jesus came to this earth about 2,000 years ago and suffered, and bled, and died on the cross for you. He did it for you so that you would not have to pay the payment for your own sin. But how does this make a difference for you? Just knowing this doesn’t help you…

4. You must personally receive Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are many who know these things that I just told you, but have done nothing with it. What you do with this information is the difference between life and death, Heaven and Hell, hope and misery. You must make it personal for yourself. Do you believe that you’re a sinner? Do you believe that the punishment for your sin is death and hell? Do you believe that Jesus died for your sins on the cross? If so, you need to make it personal for you right now. How do you do it?

Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” All you must do is two things—believe in your heart, and confess with your mouth. Confess means “to agree with.” Tell God that you believe in what Jesus Christ has done for you. Ask Jesus Christ to come into your life right now and be your Savior. Pray a prayer something like the one below…

Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know that because of my sin, I deserve death and Hell. But I believe that you died on the cross for my sin, and rose again the third day. I now ask you to come into my life, and be my Savior. Thank you for saving me! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

You can now have assurance!
The Bible tells us that if we believe on the name of Jesus Christ, we can KNOW that we have eternal life! We can have the assurance of Heaven!

1 John 5:13 says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
